Jonavos Senamiesčio gimnazija, Jonava, Lithuania

Jonava Senamiestis gymnasium is a high school located in the town of Jonava, a regional centre, with an average degree of industrialization but the enterprises which specialize on the production of fertilizers, furniture and textile still do not satisfy the emloyment needs of the local population. Due to this fact, the number of jobless people is quite high which affects the living conditions of our students. Jonava Senamiestis gymnasium is a general secondary school situated in the cental part of Lithuania. Our community regard it as an educational establishment which provides its students with a good quality of education.

In our school the majority of students are Lithuanians. Others belong to Russian, Polish, Byelorussian, Ukrainian minorities. Out of 843 students, 62 have at least one parent working abroad, 234 have serious social problems and benefit from social assistance, 47 receive special financial support, being orphans.

The goal of our school is to provide safe, creative and challenging environments for students in order to give them possibilities to realize themselves in various class and extra class activities with the emphases to democratic values, cultural diversity and life-long learning.

Within the project students will be able to evaluate the ecological condition of the area they live, make solutions and take certain actions in order to improve it. This way they will contribute to the well-being of their local region. We would really like our students to become active members of our community, active citizens who would really care about their Motherland.
