 Liceo Touschek, Grottaferrata, Rome, Italy

The school is entitled to Bruno Touschek (February 3, 1921–May 25, 1978); he  was an Austrian physicist, a survivor of the Holocaust, and initiator of research on electron-positron colliders. It  is situated in Grottaferrata, a small town, about 20 km from Rome,  in a green residential area in CASTELLI ROMANI, which includes also other towns such as Frascati, Albano, Ariccia, Rocca Priora, Rocca di Papa.

It is the only scientific High School (LICEO SCIENTIFICO) in the 37° School  District, which includes schools of Castelli Romani area. Students generally come from quite wealthy  families with a medium-high cultural background. The institute actively participates into the reality of the surrounding area with frequent exchanges with the local cultural and social agencies and also with the scientific research centres, such as INFN (the National Institute of Nuclear Physics) and ENEA (Department of Environment, Global Change And Sustainable Development), which have local agencies in the area.

Our school has an abundant supply of laboratories, as well as special rooms, all equipped with the most modern tools in the network and  supported by the presence of qualified assistants.

Our school mission is to provide a sound basic education in both the humanities and in science, which enables the students to build their identity. After completing their studies the young will be able to go to university, but also to orient themselves to "the internal production system with good prospects for inclusion". The completeness and responsible use of modern technologies in teaching help bridge the gap between school and modern society and  enable the flexibility required by a changing world.

The main objectives in our school are:

• development of intellectual curiosity, creativity and spirit of research

• the achievement of a complete cultural formation, in which  scientific and humanistic fields are harmoniously combined.

There are numerous activities available to students that integrate the curriculum and enrich, such as music, theatre, sports activities, school trips and visits in the surroundings.

This project  will contribute to strengthen our  students’ cultural background, widen their cultural horizons and offer them an opportunity to obtain higher and more specific qualifications in the fields of sustainable development in view of their future job perspectives. It will also support activities aimed at preventing drop-out through personal involvement and cooperation.
